Our Story

Olive oil: a family love
Let’s ennoble a thousand-year-old resource!

A Brief History of the Company

told by Mimmo Fazari, the current Managing Director
of Olearia San Giorgio.
It was 1940 when grandfather Domenico Fazari, comforted by the arms of his five sons: Uncle Vincenzo, Giorgio ‘who is my father’, and his other uncles Giuseppe, Michele and Salvatore, rented an olive grove and a small oil mill that was already obsolete at the time.

As the years progressed, Grandpa Domenico began to hand over the reins to his sons, who not only continued his work, but grew the company. As soon as I finished high school, I too began to work in the company; the early 1990s – I was not even 30 years old – were the beginning of my management role as managing director. I convincingly proposed to my uncles and aunts that we focus on innovation and high quality production. They give me carte blanche, the innovation phase begins with the introduction of new olive clones, of the first technologies, of new production systems, of the strategy aimed at quality and, later from the early 2000s, marketing outside the regional borders.

All the rest is today’s history; 2020 was our farm’s 80th birthday in the world of Calabrian olive growing. We are convinced that we have spent all these years profitably, with seriousness, commitment, dedication to work and foresight.

We want to be jealous custodians of ancient traditions that hold high the cult of the true art of olive oil production, showing that we know how to combine the needs of entrepreneurship with those of quality and with respect for the principles of sociality and Humanism of Labour. We would like to be humble prophets of the regeneration of Calabrian olive growing’.
